If one person has no income after divorce, does he or she need to file an income tax return? He or she was the dependent of the other party before the divorce. He or she lives on savings.
ANSWER
The BIDaWIZ Team's Answer:
You do not have to file a tax return, if you do not
have any taxable income. However, until you reach
retirement age, it is still advisable to file a tax return,
with $0 taxable income reported thereon. Thus, precluding
the IRS from asserting, at a later date, that taxable income
was not reported.
