If I travel for work, are all my expenses related to the trip tax deductible business expenses? If I visit a friend while I am in between meetings on the trip, would that have an effect on whether or not the trip expenses are still deductible?

ANSWER

The BIDaWIZ Team's Answer:

Yes, per Internal Revenue Code Section 162(a) a deduction is allowed for ordinary and necessary travel expenses that you incur, while away from home, in furtherance of the conduct of a trade or business. However, you would need to prorate the expenses that are associated with personal use.
