I spent $2,000 in rent to move across the state for a new job. Can I write that off under moving expenses?
ANSWER
The BIDaWIZ Team's Answer:
Yes: you may deduct the moving expenses on Form 3903, of
your Form 1040, since the move is related to starting work, in
a new locatiion [IRC 217]. The new work location must be at least
50 miles from your old residence. You must be employed for at
least 39 weeks, following the date of the move, and the move must be
in connection with starting work at the new location.
