I was divorce in July of 2009 and gave my ex $4,000. How is this amount reported on my taxes?

It depends on whether it was an alimony payment,

or a division of marital equity. If it was alimony, it is

a tax deductible item, on the first page, of your Form 1040.

Otherwise, it is not tax deductible.
