Do children who receive social security survivor benefits from a deceased parent have to pay taxes on the benefit? Is it added to the surviving parent's tax form or should each child submit their own tax form?
ANSWER
Expert Mark Anderson's Answer:
The child would need to file their own tax return. Typically it is not taxable. The child may need to pay taxes if they have any other income. Eventhough the child may not need to file. I would suggest filing a return so the IRS can not say you failed to file a return. I hope this answers your question.
