My boyfriend is paying his ex-wife's alimony . It is deducted from his paycheck from work. However, in 2011, the taxes weren't deducted because of a clerical error made by the bookkeeper. Is her responsible for any penalties and additional taxes he has to pay because of the mistake?

ANSWER

Expert Mark Anderson's Answer:

No.  She would not be responsible.   She only receives the checks.   She has nothing to do with his taxes.   It was his responsibilty to make her withholding was correct.  The bookkeeper should have withheld the taxes.   I hope this answers your question.
