I live in Texas but temporarily work in several states during the year. My company is stating that I must file state tax returns in each state I work in if I am there for 10 consecutive days or more. Is that true?

ANSWER

The BIDaWIZ Team's Answer:

Whether or not you need to report state income taxes depends on your state of residence and the source of the income generated. If the actual work was performed in a specific state outside of your residence, that income is considered taxable for that state. We're not sure where you heard about a 10 day rule, but income and residency, not time are the determining factors to consider for state tax preparation.
