I live in Wisconsin, but work for companies that are based in other states. I've never physically worked in these states such as Colorado or Virginia. On my W-2 form, it lists Wisconsin states wages in box 15 so I am assuming my taxes are being paid to Wisconsin. Can I file only a Wisconsin state tax return or do I need to also file Colorado and Virginia non-resident tax returns?

ANSWER

The BIDaWIZ Team's Answer:

You would only file taxes in the state where you physically work. If it is Wisconsin, then that is where you should file your taxes. You simply do not have tax nexus in those other states. This is referenced in Colorado Revenue Statute (CRS) Section 42-1-204 and Virginia State Tax Form 763.
