Can I withdraw a portion of my SEP IRA to rollover into a Roth? Or do I have to rollover the entire amount?

ANSWER

Expert Thomas Graham iii's Answer:

Yes, you can withdraw a portion of your SEP IRA and roll it over into a Roth IRA. A lot of the confusion with SEP IRA's comes because there really isn't that much information out there about them. In actuality they are treated exactly like a Traditional IRA. You can withdraw all or just a partial amount of your SEP IRA and roll it over into a Roth IRA.

You will need to check with your IRA provider to go through the process of transfering a portion of your SEP IRA to a Roth IRA. Please be advised that you will face tax consequences based on this action because your deductions to the SEP IRA were tax deductible and Roth IRA contributions are after-tax.
