We manage a small investment fund investing in Vietnam's equity market. One of our investors has recently declared a share dividend. Both the declaration and ex dates were before year end of 2008. How and when should we account for the share dividend?
ANSWER
The BIDaWIZ Team's Answer:
You should record the dividend as of the declaration date.
Debit a "stock dividends declared" account, and credit a
"common stock distributable" account.
