I have written a book with a business partner. I need to complete a W9 form in order to get the funds from the company selling our book. I need to pay the business partner half of these. Do I ask for a W9 from her so I don't half to pay taxes on the profits for her half? Is that the best way to do it?

Yes: prepare separate W9 forms, for each business partner.
