I run my PR agency from home and have a few employees working in other states helping with sales and account management. Most of the clients we have are in my home state of New York but others are located in other states near where my sales force resides. I am wondering if state tax returns are necessary other than New York since salespersons are located in these other locations?
ANSWER
Expert James Noone's Answer:
If you have employees working in other states and have sales from within those states, you have "nexis" of doing business there and you must file a business tax return in any such state.
