My fiance has been legally disabled for two years and was given an estimated 6 months or less to live, should we get married for tax purposes?

ANSWER

Expert Michael Lim's Answer:

This is a fairly morbid use of the tax code, but if you are married in the current tax year and she passes away, you are legally entitled to use the Married Filing Joint tax status.

Depending on her income (or what sounds like her lack of it), you would benefit from the expanded tax brackets that this tax status has.
