I was a non-resident in the U.S. and going to school for two years before I got my green card. My husband and I want to amend his tax return to file "Married Filing Jointly" because at the time we didn't have a Social Security number for me. Now that I have a Social Security number, I wonder if I can claim my tuition amounts and transfer them over to my husband - for all three prior years including the years him and I weren't married. Can I do that? Can I transfer to him my tuition amounts even though I claimed most of the amounts in Canada and have a large carry-forward (From the same school in U.S.).
