I have a 16 year old that worked this summer and made under $1,000 dollars. How do we file taxes or must she file this year?

ANSWER

Expert Michael Lim's Answer:

No.  There is no requirement for your child to file taxes this year, as he/she has made less than the standard deduction amount for 2010 ($5,750).

However, if any Federal or State taxes were withheld from his/her paycheck, you may want to consider filing a 1040-EZ form for them so they can receive the refund that would be due to them.
