How do the taxes in a specific state work and how do they interplay with federal taxes?

ANSWER

The BIDaWIZ Team's Answer:

The taxes in a specific state are just that specific to the state.  So I would need to know what state you live in or received income from in order to answer the question on how the state taxes work.  But in general if you live in a state or work in a state that imposes state taxes, you are required to pay taxes for the income earned in that state based on their specific tax requirements.

The state tax interplays with the Federal in that some states will use your Federal Adjusted gross income to begin (as a basis) the calculations for your tax return for the state.  Depending on the specific state, the state may or may not conform to the same tax rules and regulations as the Federal goverment has in place.  So without know that state you are dealing with, I can only suggest that you consult the specific state you live in or worked in to gain an understanding of their specific tax requirements.
