I have never purchased a home, but my wife purchased a home in Seattle before we were married and still owns it. I am purchasing a home now for us to live in Texas and wanted to know if I would qualify for the tax credits?

ANSWER

The BIDaWIZ Team's Answer:

See IRC 36, of the "worker, home ownership, and business

assistance act" of 2009. It depends on the date of marriage,

and the date that the home was purchased. You may have to file

"married filing separately," to remain eligible, and the credit may be

limited to $4,000.
