My employer just informed me that they reported my wages incorrectly in 2008. They are willing to make the correction but Im uncomfortable re-opening 2 years worth of tax returns. What do you recommend?
ANSWER
Expert Wray Rives's Answer:
Your employer is required by law to send a corrected W-2 to the IRS if they identify an error in the reporting. Once the IRS receives the corrected W-2, they will be expecting you to file an amended return to report the difference. I would recommend you file the amended return.
